Our first and only Montreal winter

We totally cheated. When we came here last May, everyone laughed when they found out we were from LA. "Have you been through winter yet? Just wait." Montreal winter is legendary. It's epic. This year though, it's been really mild. Mild enough that even Husband, a notorious cold weather hater, hasn't been able to complain. We may not have been here a whole year, but at least we got to experience all four seasons.
Frost-covered branches look like pipe-cleaners.

The dogs both loved winter. New Dog got a spiffy parka and booties, and Whiny Dog was completely mesmerized by his first exposure to snow.

We went to the Snow Village at Parc Jean Drapeau. There's a hotel, restaurant, bar, and chapel all made of ice.

We walked on Mont Royal and watched the skaters on Lac aux Castors. I've gotten a chance to visit the park in every season, and each is beautiful in its own way.

This weekend we made a point to go back to all our favorite places. We had dinner and walked around Vieux Montreal.
It was so pretty that we came back the following day.

We went to Marché Jean Talon and stocked up on Quebec maple products, rillettes, and foie gras. We had one last smoked meat sandwich at Schwartz's. And after several failed attempts, we finally had dinner at Au Pied de Cochon.

It was worth the wait - and the atherosclerosis.

In 2 days we pack the car and put the dogs in the back seat and drive back to Los Angeles. In many ways, it feels like someone hit the rewind button.

A là prochaine, Montréal. Tu vas me manquer.
